Using Note

A note can be used for comments and additional explanations about specifications and requirements in a diagram element or at a link in the diagram. It is not included in any generated code.

The contents of a note do not alter the meaning of the model to which it is attached. A note can contain any combination of text and graphics and can also be used in defining a stereotype and entering a noted element. The note feature is available in all VP products on all diagram palettes, and can also be created using the Resource-centric Interface.

Let’s try to add a note to a use case diagram. First create a new use case diagram.

Choose Note in the diagram palette.

Click on the diagram to create a note.

Double-click the note to edit.

Edit text with formatting.

Press Ctrl + Enter (or click outside the note area) to apply.

Using Resource-centric

Notes can also be created using the Resource-centric Interface. All diagram elements will have the note resource icon on their interface.

Click on the icon and drag to a place on the diagram.

Release the note to begin editing.

Anchor

The note also has an anchor resource which allows you to connect the note to other elements in the diagram.

Click on the anchor resource icon and drag it to the element you want to connect it with, and release the mouse.

Text box

Alternatively you may add a message by using the text box function on the toolbar. Click on the text box function on the toolbar and drag to create a text box of a specific size on the diagram.

Enter content into the box and click outside it to finish editing.

Fill Color

The default fill color of the text box is transparent. To change the fill color, right click on the text box and select Format> Fill...

The ‘Format Fill Color’ dialog box will show. Select the fill color and click okay. Make sure the transparency setting is not 100%.

The fill color is changed.
