Keeping Your Tool Up-to-Date By VP Suite Update
VP Suite provides you a collection of Visual Paradigm’s CASE Tools for installation. As Visual Paradigm aims at providing quality products to users, the usability of the CASE Tools are improved from time-to-time, VP Suite Update provides you an effortless way to keep the installed products up-to-date.
Why needs VP Suite Update
In order to improve the usability of the CASE tools, the product files are updated and released from time-to-time allowing users to update their installed products. VP Suite provides users the VP Suite Update which is capable of comparing the existing files in your local installation directory with the most up-to-date files from the Internet server, downloading the updated files to replace your existing one.
With VP Suite Update, you can keep your installed product up-to-date without re-installing the whole product. You can benefit from saving time to get the up-to-date product without wasting bandwidth for accessing the Internet.
Launching the VP Suite Update
To activate the update process, simply launch the VP Suite Update to proceed. The VP Suite Update wizard will guide you through the update process.
On Windows platform
On the Windows platform, you can launch the VP Suite Update in one of the two ways:
On the Windows Start Menu, select
Programs > Visual Paradigm > VP Suite Update 2.1, click
VP Suite Update 2.1 shortcut to start the VP Suite Update.
Double-click the VP Suite Update file at the %VP_Suite_Installation_Directory%/bin directory.
On Linux platform
On the Linux platform, launch the VP Suite Update by executing the VP Suite Update file at
%VP_Suite_Installation_Directory%/bin directory.
On Mac OS X platform
On the Mac OS X platform, launch the VP Suite Update by executing the VP Suite Update file at
%VP_Suite_Installation_Directory%/bin directory.
Specifying the Connection Method
VP Suite Update provides you two connection methods – Automatic Connection and Manual Connection for the update process.
Automatic Connection – Select a server from the drop-down menu for checking and downloading update files. The list of servers can be refreshed by using the
Refresh Server List button.
Note: If there is a connection problem when downloading the update files from the specified server under
Automatic Connection, VP Suite Update will connect to another server randomly instead of the specified connection to continue the update automatically.
Manual Connection – Specify the
URL or file path for checking update files.
Note: If there are multiple installations of VP’s CASE Tools in your organization, you can specify a shared location for setting up an update repository by the Update Synchronizer to assist the multiple updates using the local network.
By using the Update Synchronizer to keep the files in the update repository up-to-date, network client can specify the
URL or file path of the update repository using the
Manual Connection.

Setting Proxy
In case proxy is used for connecting the Internet in the network, you may need to enable the proxy configuration. Click the Proxy Setting button, the Proxy Setting dialog box is shown. Specify the proxy information to access the Internet by checking the Enable Proxy option.
Having configured the connection method, press Next to proceed.
Updating the VP Suite Update
Checking for Update Files
After configured the connection method, VP Suite Update compares the files of the installed products with the up-to-date files in the specified server.
Selecting Files to be Updated
After checking is completed, the updated files are listed. You are allowed to select the listed files to be updated by checking the box corresponding to the file on the Update column. By default, all files will be selected for update.
During the checking for update files, VP Suite Update identifies two types of files including modified and obsolete to be updated. The descriptions of modified and obsolete files can be found by clicking on the statement (?) hyperlink.
The modified files colored in blue in the table refer to the files which are modified by the users and will be replaced with the original files
The obsolete files colored in red are those no longer useful in the new version of the product and will be deleted.
If you want to keep the modified and obsolete files, press the Deselect “Obsolete” and Deselect “Modified” buttons so that these files will not be updated.
Proceeding the Update
After selected the files to be updated, the update process will proceed automatically. The progress of the update process is shown.
After update is completed, click Finish to exit the VP Update wizard.
